Touching Spirit Bear Blog Before Crescent Beach

Touching Spirit Bear… many words can be used to describe this amazing book. I enjoy reading this book because of all the relatable moments that take you back to that one moment in your life. The one part of the book though that took me back to a really good memory was when Edwin said going into the cold pond everyday made allowed him to release his anger. This reminded me of the time I went swimming at White Pine Beach in the rain with my friends. It really was a moment you had to experience because even if someone were to tell you what they experience it just wouldn't be the same. So what happened was I was swimming with my friends but then it started to rain. We decided it would be fun to stay in the water as parents watched so we did, we grabbed a board next to us and use it to protect us from the rain. Surprisingly it was one of the best feelings I've ever felt. In that one moment in life and even though it wasn't that long, I forgot what anger and sadness felt like. I only felt happiness and fun. I felt the happiness of the people around me, I felt so free, If I could, I would go back to that day at that time every day of my life. Even today I still go back to that memory whenever I swim anywhere.  Another part of the book that reminded me of a moment in my life was when Cole thought he looked stupid while "dancing his feelings." This part reminded me of the time I went to a very big Christmas party at my church and all of a sudden all of the parents began line dancing. Each parent was perfectly mimicking all of the others as they all danced in unison, like one person was controlling them. Then I saw a bunch of kids join their parents. Friends of mine began to join too, even my sister joined. Then I thought "you know what? It doesn't matter if people judge me for dancing with them, as long as I enjoy doing it and I know they would be ok with me joining them then what's really holding me back" so I got up there and really quickly I managed to learn the steps to the dance. Eventually a found my self at the front of the big group with my friends leading the dance. I think that was the first moment I really stepped out of my comfort zone and that it also marked the time in my life where I stopped caring if people judged me or not, I believe that without that moment I wouldn't be where I am today with all these great friends to back me up. For example, I met my good friends Kyle, Steven, Colton, and Jordan because I had the guts to step into the basketball court and asked them if I could join. Those two parts in the book really made me think back to those important experiences in my life.

My Spirit Bear                                            (Touching Spirit Bear)

So the image above is my Spirit Bear. The first thing you might notice about my Spirit Bear is that it isn't your normal Grizzly bear or your classic Polar bear but instead, my Spirit Bear is a purple bear wearing a cross and a jacket with the Philippines flag on it while taking a selfie. All of these things mean something important to me. The bear has purple fur mainly because purple is my favourite colour. Purple is my favourite colour because in my opinion purple is such a royal, sophisticated and majestic colour that can be rocked by both girls and boys. The next thing I'd like to explain is why my bear is taking a selfie. Well taking a selfie has been a huge trend this year and taking a selfie wouldn't be possible without technology and technology is usually required to make small things that make life easier and more fun at the same time. So somehow that all ties into my bear taking a selfie. The third thing I'm going to be explaining is the small white cross right above the neck of the jacket. I'm Catholic and the cross is usually associated with Christianity, more specifically the crucifixion of Jesus Christ so that's why I put the white cross there. Now the fourth and final thing I'm going to explain is why my bear is wearing a jacket with the Philippines flag on it. If you haven't read the blog on the all about me page then there's a good chance you don't know i'm from the Philippines. The Philippines was where I was born but I moved to Canada when I was 5 years old and have only visited the Philippines twice. I still stay connected to the philippines by talking to my family there, watching filipino movies and tv shows or playing filipino card games. I also know how to speak tagalog which the main language of the Philippines and I also speak kapangpangan which is the language used in the place I was born in, Angeles City, Pampanga. That's all of the things I put on my bear and what they stand for. I hope you have a good day and thank you for reading my blog.

Dear Educators Of Kalamak Indian Residential School In B.C.

Dear Educators of Kalamak Indian Residential School In B.C.,

I have heard from several sources that the students in your school aren’t being treated fairly. It is a possibility that you may have a different opinion on how you think you’re supposed to teach but I have heard from my sources that your way of teaching is not fair and abuses children. I would like to suggest some alternatives for punishments instead of giving them “the strap”. One alternative could be to KINDLY give them a reminder on what the rules are and what they’re supposed to be doing at the time. Another alternative would be to make them sit out side or sit facing the wall as a punishment instead of whipping them. While we’re talking about rules, one rule that I have an issue with in your school is the rule that everyone has to be the same and follow your culture and ways, also known as assimilation. (Christianity is what I heard your culture was). Instead of forcing your culture into their mind, why not focus on actually teaching them the ABCs or how to read and write.

I expect that these suggestions are highly considered.

End Of Term 1 Reflections

12/5/2014

  1. I am most proud of my science Biomes Project. I am most proud of this assignment because I feel like this was a project where I was just being my self and I didn't care about what other people thought about it because I knew I did my best.
  2. I worked the hardest when I was given the Biomes Project because it was my first MAJOR project here at a new school and I wanted to do great on it so I can make a good first impression.
  3. My behaviour this term was shy and calm, this had a positive and a negative effect on my learning because my shyness caused me to be nervous during big presentations and my calmness helped me do work even though some students were loud.
  4. My favourite thing I have learned so far this year is Biomes, specifically Aquatic because it really interests me how much we really know about the Ocean and that maybe one day I can discover something new and have it named after me.
  5. I have been coming to class prepared to learn everyday because I enjoy doing it, I enjoy learning.
  6. Three things I need to start doing better to improve my academics are, keeping my binder organized, keeping my desk organized and come to school earlier.
  7. I feel that I am being a good classmate because I haven't intentionally interrupted the class before and I always try to help people when they need it.
  8. Three things I need to start doing to be a better classmate are, share supplies when I they really need it.Talk to people more so then they can always have someone to talk to.Finally to be a better classmate I can stay in a bit longer after school to help clean up when I can.
  9. What I expect to see on my report card comment is that I am being helpful and that I am adjusting well to the class.
  10. Three SMART goal I have for next term are,

I. Starting next term I will try to start getting over my nervousness during presentations.I will do this by practicing what I have so far in front of my parents/sibling everyday before my presentation.

II. Starting next term I will try to get to school earlier.I will do this by setting 3 alarm clocks all 5 minutes apart and ask my sister to hide them so then I would have to get up and look for them.I will also start sleeping earlier.

III.Starting next year I will try to keep my desk neater.I will do this by first, organizing my binder over the break and then but what ever paper I get into my binder right away.

The Apple Of Fate                                        (the names of the 2 villains are actually latin words but I just had to change something to make it more male/female

         The Apple Of Fate

Once upon a time in the small village of Applopilis two young orphans were stealing food during the village’s annual apple festival. These orphans were well known yet seldom seen. The orphans are fifteen  and looked alike too,in fact they were twins! One of the boys was named Ceasar while other one was named Rom. So time to get into some more backstory. Rom and Ceasar’s parents,Julius (the father) and Lin Ux (the mother) disappeared while they were on an adventure in the jungle (Rom and Ceasar were too young to go so they stayed home).A couple years later their bodies were found next to a tree. No scratches, no bruises…no pulse. The memory haunted the brothers so much that they couldn’t stand near the jungle at all. So back to the present, Rom and Ceasar went around the village stealing apples from the families who leave them on the tables and benches, then out of nowhere a knight from the nearby castle of Ragnarock rides his dark coloured horse into the village. The knight then gets off his horse and pulls out a rather long scroll, he begins to read out the scroll while the entire village was watching… well, not the ENTIRE village. Rom and Ceasar were “collecting” all the apples when they ran into a rather unusual looking apple. This apple was shiny, glowing and the weirdest of all… floating. Ceasar tried to pick up the apple but Rom pushed his hand away before he could. Rom then picked up the apple and put it in his pocket while Ceasar began to shout at him. After a couple minutes, Rom and Ceasar finally got back to their hut made out of large sticks and leaves not too far away from the village. The knight then finished reading his scroll and rode off on his horse while the villagers were left shocked that all of their apples were gone. Back at the hut, Rom and Ceasar were examining the apple that they found. They quickly realized that the apple floats about five millimeters above anything it’s on top of. Tomorrow comes, Rom and Ceasar are out again doing they’re usual thing, you know, stealing, when all of a sudden they overhear a group of villagers talking about some sort of prophecy. They said these numbers “10, 11, 21”. Rom and Ceasar quickly found out that they stood for a date .The tenth day, the eleventh month and on 21:00 p.m.(Which is 9:00 p.m). Which was the day after tomorrow  They also heard about the use of the apple. The apple is supposed to be brought to a shrine before that date or else the earth would open up and let monsters from the depths of darkness destroy the village and the castle, but that wasn’t the problem, the problem was that the shrine is hidden very deep in… the Jungle of Eternal Fruitiness.
The boys almost instantly got into an argument when they got home.”Never, ever” said Ceasar “Why not?” asked Rom “Because what if the thing that killed mom and dad is still living in there” replied Ceasar.
The room was filled with silence as the boys just sat there looking at the ground.“We have to go in there though. For the good of the village” said Rom finally “Okay, but we must be very careful so let’s go into the armory to get some gear” agreed Ceasar. So the boys sneaked into the armory after dusk and took some leather armor,a bow with a quiver full of sharpened arrows for Ceasar and a two handed sword for Rom.The boys took the gear into their hut and slept while they still could. At dawn, the boys got up and left for their adventure knowing that there was no turning back now.
The boys have been searching for an hour now so they decided to rest against a rock and eat some of the apples they stole. It was the middle of the day now and the boys just heard a low growl. “Did you hear that?” asked Ceasar “yeah” replied Rom.Ceasar began to fit an arrow onto his bow while Rom picked up his sword from the floor and got it ready. Then the beast came out of the bushes and attacked Rom and Ceasar.Rom and Ceasar backed up before the creature got to them, Rom and Ceaser also got a good look at the monster. The beast had a tiger like body and was covered in white fur with a yin yang symbol on it’s back.It also has white wings with a small obsidian spike on the tips of each wing.Another characteristic of the beast was it’s horns,it wasn’t your usual pointed horns but instead they were pointed in front of the forehead with a glowing orb in between. The last characteristic about the animal is it’s long tail, the tip of the tail is shaped like a knife where one side of the tip of the tail is sharpened and by the looks of it, the beast has recently killed something.”Hey i’ve seen this thing before but only in paintings” says Ceasar “yeah me too, in the chapel” replies Rom, Ceasar points out that the beast’s is name is Mortemios (Mortem-ee-owe-s) and he is one of the beasts from the darkness.Ceasar also points out that the orb infront of it’s forehead is it’s heart… it’s weakness.Mortemios lunged towards Ceasar with it’s big sharp claws, luckily Rom saved Ceasar just in time with one slice of his sword he cut off Mortemios’ head and Ceasar shot the orb with one of his arrows. The boys then slept on a rock.
When the boys woke up they continued their adventure aroun noon Rom’s bag began to glow, so Rom pulled out the glowing apple and the apple flew into a bush. When Rom and Ceasar walked into the bushe they found the shrine. The shrine and a place to put the apple on top of a pool of the best juice ever made from fruits not from this world.
Rom placed the apple on the holder and the apple rose up and turned into a small golden bird. The bird said he would grant Rom one wish so Rom wished for his parents to be alive again. On their way back Rom and Ceasar ran into their parents.Lin Ux asks “where is she? Is she gone?” Ceasar answers “yes Mortemios is gone”. “No” says Julius “Exspiravitia”.

Goals

1. What Goals Have You Set For Yourself In The Past

In the past I would dream of becoming a teacher and changing the world by teaching my students.
But as I grew older I've realized that teaching was not some thing that I had an interest in anymore.
So I decided i was going to be an archeologist because I wanted to travel around the world. (even thought my parents keep telling me to be a Dentist)
but again as I grew I realized that I knew nothing about being an archeologist so I gave up on that dream somewhere along the road of life. When I was 9 - 10 I decided I loved animals and I wanted to be a zookeeper.I searched up facts about being a zookeeper and the job fit me perfectly but as I was searching I found out that zookeepers to get paid very much but I didn't care, as long as I loved what I was doing I would do it. and that has been my dream ever since. But while I work my self up to be a zookeeper my goal until then is to be better at sports because I don't really play sports and I want to learn how to be better for the future.

2. Did You Achieve These Goals

So I'm in grade 7 right now so I don't think I'm old enough to be a zoo keeper but luckily my two friends told me that they were going to volunteer at Cinema Zoo when they are thirteen so
I said "hmm that sounds fun I might join" so thats my plan for the zoo keeping idea for now.But regarding the sports, I'm now getting back into playing basket ball since I've been at my old school and I've joined the volleyball team.I didn't want to join the volleyball team at first since I was very shy and I was afraid I would embarrass myself or let the team down during a game but I took the shot anyways and it's going great so far.I feel like i'm not letting down the team in anyway and that i'm no longer afraid to fail, after all fail is the

3.How Did You Know You Have Achieved Your Goal

I know I have achieved my goal at getting better at sports because I have had successful serves, volleys and bumps during a volleyball game, where before I couldn't hit the volleyball without hurting my wrist. In basket ball I KNOW i've gotten better because before I couldn't even score a point and now i've gotten a few points and stollen the ball a couple times too.I haven't made any progress in my zoo keeping dream though.
