Reach For The Sky And End Up With The Stars Or Accidentally Paint Jupiter Like Mars

So the one big thing I set for myself to achieve yesterday was to paint as much as I can and I did achieve that one big goal. In order to achieve that one big goal I had to set three smaller goals for myself to achieve first. The first mini goal I set for myself was to bring my materials. I set this as a goal for myself because I forgot to bring my materials the previous Genius Hour block. I achieved this mini goal because as I was leaving I noticed a big green bag on the couch, then I remembered that I had a Genius Hour block today and I needed to bring my materials. The second mini goal I set for myself to achieve was to find an image for whatever planet I was painting. I achieved this simple goal because all I had to do was get a laptop, then google image a picture for whatever planet I was painting, and put the laptop on a safe place where I can see it and it's far away from the paint. Speaking about paint, that takes us to our last mini goal. The second mini goal was to focus on painting the styrofoam balls. I set this as a mini goal for myself because I usually end up focusing on other things instead of the current task. I achieved this goal because I didn't allow anything around me distract me.

R.I.Pieces Procrastination

I did it! I FINALLY bought my materials for my project, well, not all of them. I did buy the materials I needed to paint the planets. I bought paint and 3 different sized styrofoam balls. Now once again I set three goals for my self to achieve.

1. Find a picture of a planet to look at while painting

2. Paint as many planets as possible

3. Find a safe place to put the finished ones

I successfully achieved all of my goals because I found a picture of the planet I was currently painting, I managed to paint 21/2  planets and I found a safe spot to put them afterwords.

Procrastination...

So this is the 3rd week of Genius Hour, 2nd week of my new project and I still don't have most of my materials. I could say I was too busy on the weekend going to house blessings and watching the Mayweather vs  Pacquiao fight but that isn't even close to a good excuse. Instead, the reason why I haven't brought or even bought my materials yet is because I've been procrastinating. I keep allowing little things that pop up happen first before I get my materials. So basically what I'm trying to say is that I give other things priority over buying my materials.
But now that's out of the way I'll talk about my goals that I've set and if I achieved them or not. So the three goals I set for my self on Monday were
1. Google "what are the orbital speeds of the planets in our solar system

2. Draw a draft of the base for my model

3. Find out what materials I need for my base

As you can see these are very simple goals and the reason these goals are so simple is because I don't have my materials to move forward from researching. Unfortunately I only achieved 1 goal which was to Google the orbital speeds of the planets in our solar system. The reason that was the only goal I achieved is because I focused too much on a future problem which was " how do I spin the rods/pipes without them hitting each other." What I need to do now is write a note somewhere wether it's in my hand or a sticky not stuck to my hand, I need to write a note saying to buy materials. I also need to focus more on the current task rather than dealing with a future problem. P.S. (I managed to fix the rod/pipe problem)

On Wednesday I set 3 goals for myself to achieve. The 3 goals were
1. I must learn how to make the motors spin the metal rods
2. I must make a list of items I need for Monday
3. I must continue taking notes

Unfortunately I only achieved 1 of these goals and the only goal that I achieved was making a list of items I need for Monday. The reason  why that was the only goal I achieved is because I was to focused on making a list of items I needed for Monday that I forgot to research how to make the motors spin the metal rods. I rate my self an 8/10 this week because I managed to find a completely new Genius Hour project and in my opinion I managed to get a good amount of work done research wise even though I couldn't figure out how to make the motors spin the metal rods. Overall I feel pretty good with the decision I made to change my Genius Hour project and I'm looking forward to making my model.

A Whole New World

So there were a lot of flaws with my first Genius Hour project which was making a robot and because of those flaws I've decided to change my Genius Hour project completely, now my Genius Hour project is to build a model of our solar system which show the orbit speed and the orbit course of the planets in our solar systems. Just like before I have set 3 goals for me to achieve.

1. Find a new Genius Hour project
2. Gain more information on that project (have an idea of what the end product will look like)
3. Take notes on the project

I have achieved all these goals because I found a new Genius Hour project, I got a basic idea of what my end product will look like and I took note while doing it.

Genius Hour Blog #1

If you couldn't tell, this is my first Genius Hour blog and since this is my first Genius Hour blog that means I have already had my first official Genius Hour work day. Before our work day, I came up with three goals for myself to achieve during our work time. The three goals were

  1. Draw a draft of my end product
  2. Find the material for my project
  3. Gain info on how to build my robot
I'm happy that I achieved 2/3 goals that I set for myself. The two goals that I achieved are drawing a draft of my end product and gaining info on how to build my robot. The draft that I drew for my end project is a robot that's supposed to have either wheels or tracks (like a tank) or both. The robot might also have an arm and be able to do various things. The one thing that I am most proud of is deciding to model my robot after R2-D2. I decided to model my robot after R2-D2 because of the new Star Wars movie coming out this Christmas and because R2-D2 has always been a robot that has interested me ask a kid so I decided why not model my robot after R2-D2.

The second goal I reached was to gain info on how to build my robot. I achieved this goal by finding this web site called robotshop
here is the link -> http://www.robotshop.com/blog/en/how-to-make-a-robot-lesson-1-3707 this website helped me feel more confident and showed me things that got me to ask myself questions such as do you want wheels or tracks, or, do you want an arm or not. I am looking forward to learning more on how to build my robot but until then. Good bye.

Passions/Genius Hour Blog

What is a passion? A passion is something the you're really interested in. You don't need to need to have only one passion though, it's normal for people to have more the one passion. A passion of mine are the little things people make or do that could change someone's life. An example of this is a man who created a straw with a filter in it and gave it to people in Africa so they can drink clean water.  Another passion of mine is technology, Makey Makey is an example of this. Makey Makey let's you make controls using anything for buckets of water to bananas.

I'm not really sure about what I want to do for Genius Hour but I do have an idea, the idea I have is to make a remote control robot sweeper vacuum thing with a camera on it so you can see where your going. I would make this out of a remote control car that I take apart then add the sweeping part of a broom. I don't know how to make the frame or how far it would go before you have to move closer, another thing I'm wondering is how I would send the live camera feed to a device.

The purpose of this machine is to make doing simple chores like sweeping, easier and make it feel like a game which might get more people engaged while doing simple boring chores.

Deep Un-answered Questions and My Opinions

12/10/2014

Yay! Another deep video so as always, I will put the video at the bottom of this blog.So now after that little introduction, let's begin.

So the video we watched today was about questions we don't know the answer to. So after this video I started to think about other un-answered question(s).

1.Does everything action have an affect later on. What if you wrote that word wrong on purpose so you can use that brand new eraser you got, but then later on in life what if that small piece of eraser you used is all that you needed to write the most important resume in your life.Or what if we are given an X amount of breaths before we die and then we over react and start breathing quickly because you want attention therefore "killing" ourselves quicker.

Genius Hour Prep

1. My One Sentence Project was

“He will be the one that will cure patients of Alzheimer's”.

I chose this sentence because I feel that
Alzheimer's is an underrated but very life ruining
disease.

In case you didn't know what Alzheimer's is, it's a disease that causes people to gradually forget things like family or friends.
It is common in middle aged people to elderly people

The One Sentence Project is where you write one sentence about what you want to be remembered for when you die

2.I am passionate about anything that changes the world in a positive way. (e.g. Technology)

3.Questions that I have in life are, I know technology can work against us but will there be a day where technology finds a way to “overthrow” us humans and eventually rule the world?

4.The three words that describe me are nervous, friendly and thoughtful.

5.If I was a car my engine would be Technology because I love how it has changed the world so much and for the better in most ways.
